Borroloola Amateur Race Club Facilities Upgrade

The McArthur River Mine (MRM) Community Benefits Trust has been a long-term supporter of the Borroloola Amateur Race Club (BARC) with previous contributions including assistance with refurbishments (2007), new chutes (2010), and a new arena, cutout yards and loading ramp (2017). In 2018, BARC applied for support to build permanent yards instead of relying on borrowed panels. This would help with the increasing number of camp draft entries experienced by the club on the eve of their 50th Anniversary of operation.

The project was completed in August 2018 ahead of the Annual Borroloola Campdraft and Rodeo – one of the Gulf region’s most popular events. The new holding yards significantly improved the movement of cattle, with cattle providers and handlers both commenting on the improvements in the facility. The benefits of the project include (i) safer environment for locals to enjoy one of the premier events of the year (ii) income for local businesses in the procurement of infrastructure, (iii) increased capacity and functionality to hold and grow the event and (iv) improved wellbeing for livestock.

The MRM Community Benefits Trust is proud to be a supporter of this important event in the local calendar.
